The Violet Drift

Purple is polarizing. You either love it or hate it. Me? I love it. Purple has always been my favorite color—from the childhood days of imagining my perfect house, complete with fluffy purple towel sets.

And while those towels never materialized—my towel sets have always been white or ivory—my love for purple has never waned.

While not the most prominent color in my closet, purple has long remained a constant. When I was in Los Angeles several years ago, just after Covid, Gucci debuted a bright purple-and-orange tee-shirt. You can bet that tee traveled home with me from LAX. Last summer, a velvet purple Manolo Blahnik was the apple (or is grape more appropriate in this case?) of my eye. She absolutely needed to go to Alaska with me—and so she did. Surprisingly, this violet beauty was the only evening shoe I wore on our week-long adventure. Shockingly neutral, I wore it with everything.

And this summer, purple is emerging as one of the season’s defining colors. I am in heaven.

Khaite’s royal organza set? You knew it had to make the edit. The organza blouse? I long to separate her from her mate and wear her with a white tee and a cropped denim jean—maybe Nili Lotan’s Shon. Finished with Jimmy Choo’s Emani sandal? Chef’s kiss.

No one does amethyst like Khaite. The Emmylou is no exception. The rich, saturated purple hue? Total perfection. Ground it with Anine Bing’s Etienne camel blazer and Courtney Grow’s Zoe sandal. I’ve been stalking this sandal for weeks, and while I adore everything Courtney Grow touches, the Zoe is the rockstar of her Reformation collection.

Purple. Pair it with a neutral base and you’ll be surprised how far it’ll carry you.
Long live the purple reign.
