The Napoleon Jacket:
The Short Man’s Syndrome
If Spring 27 runways taught us anything so far, it’s that less is, simply, well… less. Designers leaned heavily into more.
More ornament.
More buttons.
More braids.
More embellishments.
More structure.
More ceremony.
And who’s riding in on a white horse to embody said maximalism? Napoleon. That’s who.
No, of course not Bonaparte himself—he’s been exiled for years, and, frankly, he’d be a little crusty. Rumor had it, he always was. Instead? The Napoleon jacket.
The Napoleon jacket represents everything Spring 27 has been so far, and I’ve been obsessed with it since Jonathan Anderson sent it down the Dior runway last year. The light blue version was, well… disarming.
And the beauty of the Napoleon jacket? It speaks volumes. The rest of your outfit—no one will notice. Pair her—Napoleon is rolling in his grave with that pronoun—with elevated basics: the perfect white tank or tee, a kick-flare denim, and a simple mule or slingback. Mission accomplished.
The uniform hasn’t returned because we’re preparing for battle. It has returned because, after seasons of restraint, fashion wants its decoration back.
Braid. Buttons. Frogging. Ceremony.
And at CBC? We fall in line.
And Napoleon? While he may have been small in stature, he was never short on style.
All hail the jacket.
