Summer’s Exhale
How can it be August? Summer, as usual, has absolutely flown by. Why is it that I never feel that way about winter? So many things that I planned to accomplish haven’t gotten done. All those books I was going to read? Well, I did finish Belle Burden’s Strangers—highly recommend. I’m not as tan as I had hoped to be—probably because I’m layering on the sunblock, sunglasses, and a sun hat every time I step outside…
But as we head into shorter days and cooler evenings, I’m wringing every last drop out of summer—and my August wardrobe.
Matching sets are essential to end-of-summer dressing. Nothing is easier than a one-and-done look à la Deiji Studios, one of my new favorite finds. They combine light, airy fabric with an effortlessly modern silhouette. Even better? Their pieces transition seamlessly from summer to fall, with little effort required. Think cropped pants, cashmere sweater. I currently have about four of their items in various carts as we speak…
The piece most likely to come home with me? The striped cotton midi wrap skirt. It’s cut from lightweight organic cotton, with an adjustable buttoned waist that creates the perfect drape. Paired with a basic white tank, this skirt feels like summer. Want to take her into fall? Throw a light knit over your shoulders. Light layers keep cooler evenings at bay.
And raffia? I’m keeping it in the rotation as long as humanly possible. Straw bags and mules are still at the top of my list, though suede accessories are quietly making their way into the mix. Frankly, I wore suede throughout the summer—it adds unexpected contrast to light, airy summer staples. TKEES Lily suede flip-flops? My go-to.
August? She’s here, beginning her slow summer exhale. And me? I’m hoping to squeeze in a few more summer reads and some sunshine, too.
But fall? She’s tapping on the window.
The good news? The fall uniform is coming off the bench—and it’s coming in strong. Stay tuned.
