Soft Serve
Summer conjures:
The beach.
Soft swirls of Dairy Queen.
Seagulls overhead.
Raffia warmed by sunlight.
Flip flops.
Lazy brunches outside.
In short, it’s my favorite time of year. Summer is all about simplicity and pared-down elegance, but marrying the two successfully is another story entirely.
Over-layer or over-accessorize, and you look like you’re channeling the wrong season. The key to elegant summer dressing is to keep it simple, yet elevated.
A great sunglass—think Selima Optique’s Aldo in tortoise—and a simple bag (I’m partial to Savette or The Row’s Medium North South Park Tote in Ivory, a swirl of soft serve for your shoulder: you’re halfway there.
Add flip flops or a simple heeled sandal. I’m obsessed with the Hermés barely-there Moonlight 40 and the Jacquemus Low Sandals that conjure Degas ballerina dreams.
A soft layer—Khaite’s poplin peplum or Phoebe Philo’s semi-sheer top—which seems oddly reasonable at $650; it’s Philo, IYKYK—mixed with a soft summer short or a ruched skirt equals chef’s kiss.
Summer—ballet style.
Barre—be it ice cream or ballet—optional, but recommended.
