Ode to the Red Light

Ode to the Red Light

There’s something almost romantic about the ritual glow of red light—like slipping into a secret club for the skin.

Products, oh how I love thee.

Skincare products?
The holy grails—the ones we reach for morning and night.
They keep our skin glowy and glossy and, thus, earn our everlasting loyalty.

Or do they?
At a relatively attainable price point, we can afford to swap products out when we hit pan—replacing an old standby with the newest shiny toy on the market.
And these days, with every celebrity and influencer in on the trend, new shiny toys are being churned out at an alarming rate.

But devices?
They’re a horse of a different color.
Often representing a true investment, devices require commitment—both fiscally and time-wise.
Unlike skincare, which you can apply quickly, devices take time, scheduling, and integration.
They aren’t as easy.

But the results?
When you commit, they can be remarkable.
And unlike office procedures, these tools live right in your bathroom or bedroom—no appointments required.

Red light?
One of my favorites.
And at a range of price points, almost anyone can get in on the glow.

Is it worth it?
In my humble consumer opinion—hell to the yes.

Using red wavelengths of light to activate cellular healing and improve skin condition, red-light therapy reduces wrinkles and fine lines while improving tone and texture.
And whom, I ask you, doesn’t want that?
No one, that’s whom.

An added benefit?
It’s relaxing.
Pop on a red-light mask before bed, light your favorite candle—mine is Diptyque’s Feu de Bois—and listen to a meditation or a podcast.
Suddenly, you’re habit-stacking.

Another bonus:
Red light has been shown to reduce stress hormones like cortisol and lower inflammation—in other words, it’s calming.
And who doesn’t need that in today’s world?

To me, it’s the next best thing to lying in the sun—no SPF required—and the perfect nightcap for my day, guaranteed hangover-free.

I’ve used the masks, the wands, the in-office treatments.
My favorite? The Déesse Pro Light Mask.
I bought it years ago from Shani Darden—another favorite.

An investment? Definitely.
But when I use it consistently, people notice.
At my aesthetician’s office a couple of weeks ago, they commented on how good my skin looked and asked what I was doing.
It was the red light.

The secret? Consistency.
Night after night—or morning after morning.
But fifteen minutes a day for glowing, tighter skin?If you ask me, that’s fifteen minutes well spent.

And as we inch toward the holiday rush, maybe that’s the real magic: finding light in small doses—and learning to bask in it.
