Pretty in Pink
Pink—frankly, she’s never been my thing. She was always my sister’s color. Staci loved everything pink, and, somehow, in my mind she’s staked the color for herself, and it was forever lost to me.
And then… I found her again later in life. During Covid, I purchased a pair of pink suede Manolo Blahnik Maysales. They were lovely, but they never really felt like me, and so they’ve lingered in my closet for nearly six years waiting patiently in their box for their moment.
And then a couple of weeks ago, I was stalking The Royal Native’s Instagram account. Hilary, the founder, creates the most wonderful jackets out of vintage towels. Little pieces of wearable art. I was searching for a towel to make into a bespoke jacket when I saw Her.
She stopped me dead in my tracks. She was from the Southwest. Soft and a little bit loved. She had flair. She had style. But… she was decidedly pink. And, well, pink was Staci’s color. Not mine. And yet, I couldn’t get her out of my mind. She lingered. Interrupting my thoughts. And so after a day of contemplation, I claimed her.
Hilary is going to turn her into a Ragazza, and I can’t wait to see the metamorphosis. In the meantime? I’m suddenly loving all things pink.
Comme Des Garçons pink fringe skirt? I die. She’s the icing on the cake—and frankly, the entire cake. If you’re lucky enough to claim her, pair her with a simple white tank. Bag of choice? I’m loving Du Motra’s moiré bucket bag in rose. She’s just perfect—with the skirt or without. I can also see her with that aforementioned Ragazza, don’t you think? Me too…
And don’t even get me started on Reformation’s Koda jacket in pink. A sheer pink duster? Seriously, say less. The pink is currently sold out, so I’m toying with the idea of black… I love the idea of her with a cuffed denim and a simple white tee (I’m currently wearing Leset’s Margo) for fall. Paired with Le Monde Béryl’s Venetian Mule in pink? Yes, please.
So pink? I may be late to the ballgame. But this time? I’m not striking out.
I’m claiming her.
And those pink Manolos? They’ve finally found their mate. They’ll be making their debut this fall. Stay tuned…
