The waist is back.
Fashion is tightening its line again.
Oversized? Over.
Paris runways are calling for a cinched silhouette—peplums, belts, and tailoring that rein the waist back in.
This season designers reined it in—structured waists emerging through peplums and belting alike.
Jonathan Anderson at Dior and Seán McGirr at McQueen both leaned hard into the peplum. Anderson opened the show with it—Looks 1, 2, and 3 reworking Dior’s Bar jacket.
Looks 1 and 2 featured peplum-waisted jackets paired with layered organza petal skirts. The jackets were fitted, cropped, and embellished in shades of grey and ivory, respectively. Across the show, Anderson returned again and again to the Bar jacket, tailored and draped to accentuate the waist.
Paris is all about precision—and Seán McGirr’s runway delivered.
McQueen served peplums reminiscent of Dior’s promenade down the Tuileries. Look 10: the most interesting—McGirr’s avant-garde take on chainmail, a metallic cable knit peplum short-sleeve sweater paired with a pointy-toed ostrich laced pump.
Designers across Paris and Rome got the memo—belted waists and corseted tailoring were everywhere. At Valentino, Alessandro Michele embraced the cummerbund—wrapping it around jackets and dresses.

A peplum knit, a structured cardigan, a belt at the waist—the message is clear: the waist returns.
Pair a slight peplum with a slim straight-leg trouser (think Róhe’s versatile cigarette pant) or a gentle belled denim—à la the Nili Lotan Shon. Simple ballet flats or slingbacks complete the look, leaving the emphasis where it belongs—on the structure.
