Lace took a front-row seat on the FW26 runway.
Designers from Saint Laurent to Chanel to Dior turned to sheer dressing—specifically lace—again and again.
Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent went in hard—nearly every look incorporated lace: trim, skirts, jackets, dresses. Repetition was the theme—smoky-eyed models, nearly identical, smoldering in amber, burnt orange, and chocolate lingerie-inspired silhouettes.
But Saint Laurent didn’t go soft. Quite the opposite. Vaccarello shredded the traditional concept of lace, delivering a hard-edged, liquid look—lace poured on, structured and sheer.
In contrast, at Chanel, Dior, and Gabriela Hearst, lace softened. These runways favored movement—lace swayed and swirled, the palette turning lighter, more feminine. Dior and Chanel leaned into sherbet tones; Hearst stayed neutral, her lace billowing in ivory hues.
And while FW26 has yet to hit stores, spring is the perfect time to incorporate lace—whether in liquid, chocolate tones, à la the delicious Magda Butrym floral-appliqué lace-trimmed silk satin top—mouth-wateringly good—or in a berry burst of silk: think By Malene Birger’s Laya lace-trimmed satin slip midi dress, exclusive to Moda Operandi—frankly a steal at $400.
Matthieu Blazy’s joyous, colorful runway has even the most neutral among us craving color. Saint Laurent’s lace-trimmed cotton and silk midi skirt in its bright citrine hue fits the bill. Ground it with the Magda Butrym tank and a pair of patent leather slingbacks (Saint Laurent’s? Divine).
Dial into Hearst’s ivory lace with Dôen’s Viviane cutout lace-trimmed silk top and matching Lona lace-trimmed silk shorts. A much-coveted set last year, Dôen re-released it this season.
