Getting the Boot
Sole Rituals: The Fall Boot Edit
Boots—as essential to fall as leaves, and infinitely more fashionable.
They’re one of my favorite parts of the season. As much as I love flip-flops and mules, I can’t wait to slip into a pair of boots.
They can make or break an outfit and, like a ritual, I usually kick off the season with a boot scavenger hunt—searching for just the right pair to elevate every look.
Join me on the quest.
The Dream
The Row’s Noblis is the dream—the icon I long to possess.
Simple, refined, restrained.
The Row does it all right, of course.
But alas, at over $2,000, she remains elusive…and the hunt continues.
The Moto
A versatile boot, the motorcycle boot gives you a literal edge up—imbuing that element of cool to your look.
Jimmy Choo’s Youth Biker boot? Iconic.
I’ve had them for years in charcoal, and I love them so much I added green to the mix.
Recently, I even contemplated welcoming brown into the club.
And while the Jimmy’s are rather old hat—or should I say, shoe—I wear them again and again and still get compliments.
But in an effort to update, I happened across their Miu Miu siblings, and oh how I want them.
The dessert-colored suede boot? A definite thirst trap.
And CbC? We long to take a sip.
The Kitten Heel
I covet the kitten. Meow.
After all these years, I’m ready to shed the stiletto and keep the kitten.
Infinitely more comfortable and wearable—though I remain a die-hard fan of suffering for fashion—this is one instance when ease, comfort, and elegance collide in the best possible way.
And nearly every house has options.
Khaite’s Davis? Top of the heap and heels-down favorite.
The leather—oh, that leather. It’s as if I’d never experienced it before Khaite.
Buttery smooth, silky to the touch—this kitten truly purrs.
A less expensive option that comes in a myriad of colors? Take Staud’s Wally out for a walk.
The hardest part: deciding which hue to add to the cachet.
These Boots Were Made for Walking
Not only do they walk the walk—Western boots also talk the talk, adding flair to whatever you choose to wear.
Surprisingly versatile, they stand just as tall with a skirt as they do with the expected pair of jeans.
Paris Texas’ stiletto? Chef’s kiss. You can walk all day in them—mine just hit the streets of Chicago, and I could have danced in them all night long.
Prada’s white version? Heaven-sent—perfection like only Prada can curate.
And Isabel Marant? I could live in these forever.
The Durant is a true classic. I own them in black, but the grey suede? She’s crooning my name…
Brave Pudding
This chameleon? She comes ready to play.
Is she a sock? Is she a boot?
She’ll never tell—but you’ll love her anyway.
XOXO.
The Riding Boot
The most dignified of silhouettes—polished, poised, and just rebellious enough to stirrup trouble.
Riding boots aren’t just for the equestrian set—they’re for anyone who wants to stride with purpose.
A good pair grounds you.
They clip-clop through morning markets and holiday strolls with the same confident rhythm.
And when paired with a flowing skirt or structured coat? Perfection.
CO’s take is timeless—heritage meets high fashion. Calf-haired simplicity of the haute couture kind.
Ann Demeulemeester’s interpretation? Belgian cool with a whisper of untamed stallion—and who doesn’t like a bad boy?
Riding boots say, “Yes, I’ve read Austen. Yes, I’ve led a coup.”
And yes—I’m absolutely wearing these to dinner, so saddle up, Buttercup.
Boots are the punctuation mark of the season—
a bold full stop or a quiet ellipsis…
Choose your chapter. Walk it well.
And don’t forget to leave footprints—the good ones always do, the muddier the better.
