A Fur-tive Affair with Winter’s Softest Storytellers
Fur—she had me at hello.
I’ve been enchanted by her for as long as I can remember.
The love affair? It started when my aunt received a fur for her fortieth birthday. I remember sitting next to her in awe, softly petting the lush brown pelt. How could anything possibly be this soft? Oh, how I wanted a fur of my own.
But alas the furry creatures of my youth came in the canine or teddy-bear form. And don’t get me wrong, I’m still a big fan of both—dog and bear.
But, still, I longed for a fur coat of my own.
Years later, that memory still lingered—the weight of the pelt, the hush of luxury. So when I began roaming vintage shops, I found myself scanning every rack for a whisper of that same softness. And, finally, vintage shopping at Sputnik in Iceland, I happened upon a brown fur coat.
Mink, they said.
But was she? I wasn’t so sure. And did I even want a fur now? Was it ethically ok or not? After all, it was vintage…
I hemmed and hawed, and ultimately I left my love unrequited in Reykjavik.
But she haunted my dreams. And so I set out on a quest for the perfect furry companion. Faux, of course—Wolfie wouldn’t have it any other way.
