Cocoa Noir | A Chocolate That Doesn't Melt
Brown—
not so long ago, I disdained her.
The horror, the horror of brown—
who on earth would wear brown, and why?
A dull color for the truly boring among us.
Or so I thought.
And now?
Oh, how I covet her.
Brown, the slow-burn seductress.
She crept in quietly—unsullied, untouched—
and claimed space in my closet with precision.
She arrived as a whisper:
a pair of chocolate Gucci Princetowns—fur-lined, unapologetic.
Then came the High Sport kick flares—
a silhouette so flattering I had to get her in ivory, too,
a shade so rich it elevated everything:
kitten heels, low-profile sneakers, buttery-soft cashmere, tailored blazers.
I built her methodically.
A Khaite Balton blazer (found on sale, no less),
the oversized Mongolian Quince cashmere (you know the one),
a kitten heel here, a Manu Atelier structured suede bag there—chef’s kiss.
The sleeveless Zoe turtleneck—our darling from Florence Water—linked arms with a distressed Ducie leather jacket.
Foundations laid, in rich, quiet chocolate.
A flat. A heel. A blazer.
The pant that goes with everything.
The sweater. The sleeveless base layer. The jacket. The bag.
All sculpted to play well with their closet companions.
But once the foundation held…
Oh, then it was time to play.
Time to decorate.
Time to let brown bloom.
Chocolatey jackets—faux fur or wool—layer best with clean base pieces like TWP’s Wren sweater or Veronica Beard’s sleeveless Mazzy: a splash of milk to soften your coffee tones.
Mocha shoes—slouchy suede boots, velvety loafers, easy mules—do the quiet work of elevating denim and grounding a blazer or cashmere turtleneck.
Think Nili Lotan’s Tabitha.
Ready to add a new jean to the mix? DL’s Miro Barrel High Rise Coated Jean delivers exactly what I crave: candy‑coated denim. A ruched chocolate taffeta top? The cherry on top.
Craving caramel to dip your chocolate into? Altuzarra’s leather midi skirt is the syrup you were seeking.
And then—the sprinkles. Accessories seal the look with intention: a Saint Laurent suede tote or Toteme’s pony‑hair T‑Lock, Aureum’s cowhide belt, a tiger’s‑eye stud, smoky quartz, and the ubiquitous Khaite cat‑eye.
This chocolate?
She doesn’t melt.
She only gets richer with time.
