Leave Them on Red
Red—it’s not usually my calling card. If you know me, you’d know I’m much more of a neutral girl. Black, ivory, taupe, chocolate—they’re my siren call.
And then… something changed. I went for a manicure last week, and, sadly, my hard-earned long oval nails had seen better days. Grudgingly, at the urging of my manicurist (who didn’t feel like patching half of my nails), I agreed to cut them off. Long ovals gave way to short squares, and I firmly believe short squares call for darker, more strident tones. Enter red.
And my new short red nails? I kinda love them. I’m declaring it cherry season and embracing all things red…
Being new to the red game, I’m dipping my toe in gently and pairing my scarlet with grounding neutrals. A red tank top à la Heirlome’s Juanita silk top—I swoon—is the perfect pop for an ivory wrap skirt or even white denim. Sloan’s sheer Georgette mini dress with shorts? I grounded her with deep, rich brown. As Coca-Cola knows, cherry and chocolate are unexpectedly perfect together—giving new meaning to cherry pop.
Donni’s rhubarb taffeta shorts? I covet. Paired with Coucou Intimates’ Corselette—chef’s kiss. And Jacquemus’ Les Pietra Ballerines Flats—fresh off the runway, they’re definitely on my wishlist…
So join me under the cherry tree… if you dare.
