What I’m Falling For This Fall
As we transition into fall, the most exciting fashion season, I’m making my wishlist.
Top on my list? The aforementioned duster (link to Tuesday’s post). I’ve had a love affair with dusters for years, ever since they made an earlier foray in 2016. I remember buying a coral-colored satin robe from E Street—may it rest in peace—and wearing it over a tee shirt and jeans. Everyone thought I was nuts. But I loved it. And the duster trend caught on, possibly because I wore the coral robe or, more likely, because celebrities like Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner jumped on board as well. You be the judge…
But either way, dusters? They’re back. Popular retailers like Reformation and Chan Luu are showing dusters in multiple colorways. A duster is the perfect transitional piece for fall. Simply layer one over a tee shirt and jeans, and you’re autumn ready. What’s easier than that? For evening, pair a duster with a High Sport Kick Pant or a simple black trouser and a simple cashmere tank. Sometimes, the third piece speaks the loudest.
Also making their way onto my wishlist are jackets. A jacket, quite simply, is the outfit, and sometimes it’s the only layer people actually see. Right now I’m loving shearling options from Nour Hammour (their navy version is calling my name, love!), leather bombers, and suede toppers. All positively scream fall.
As for shoes? I’m eyeing leather mules à la Charvet and Arthur Sleep, slip-on loafers—Khaite’s Colt Leather Loafers, specifically, I die—embellished shoes of all shapes, and, of course, boots. Because after an entire summer of flip-flops and sandals, who doesn’t want to wear a boot?
Cashmere is making its way onto the list, too. I have to admit my Loulou de Saison Anzor sweater did sneak her way back into the summer lineup and made several appearances on cooler evenings. In a closet full of sweaters, I hate to play favorites, but she is one of them. Back for another season, I need to give my current taupe fave a fraternal ivory twin…
Also on my list—influenced by Becki Colby of Somewear Style—I’m obsessed with Suzie Kondi’s Besa sweater in grey. I can see myself wearing it with Nili Lotan’s Shon jeans and those Khaite loafers… Chef’s kiss. Becki is always on point.
Maybe that’s what I’m really falling for this fall: the return of layers, texture, and pieces that actually get to have a point of view. Summer dressing is easy. Fall dressing? That’s where the fun begins. Sign me up.
