The Great Exhale

I’m not going to lie. My wardrobe has been feeling a little stuck in the weeds lately. Neutrals, restraint, tried-and-true silhouettes. All good things, but even the most disciplined closet needs an exhale. Preferably in stilettos. Red-soled, bien sûr.

And right now? I’m ready for one. A little lighter. A little brighter. A little less serious. It’s a good feeling.

I’ve been reading a lot about energy and frequencies—Instagram only too happy to serve it up. And while many chalk that up to “woo-woo”, I’m here for it. What you put out into the world? It just makes sense that that is what you get back. Positive energy? Well, it breeds positivity. Maybe I’ve been listening to one too many episodes of The Bossticks. Is that even possible? No…

The same can be said for your wardrobe. I’m all for neutrals. Black, ivory, beige, chocolate, navy? They are my support staff. Tried and true. I lean on them as if they were my friends.

But every now and again, even I, one of the most neutral-loving of them all, need a little shot of color.

Color just makes everything sing. It’s the sprinkle on top of the white-and-brown sundae. And color? She’s just what I need right now. She’s a celebration.

In my scroll this week? I’m glad you asked…

Valesque’s tote bag in a rainbow of colors. The Thea has pared-down Row chic, and comes with an even better Zara-esque price tag. I’m calling Thea the next It Bag. And I’m not the only one. Valesque’s name keeps coming up across my feed, across my podcasts; it’s on the lips of those in the know.

Periwinkle—that delicious cross of blue and purple—also the color of my current manicure. A nail color that I honestly thought I’d grow tired of immediately, but I didn’t. The debate? Whether I’m going to paint my nails in the same blue next week, or whether, instead, it’s going to be the color of my pedicure. Opinions, please.

I’m finding periwinkle joy in terry cloth hats, in ballet flats, in sweaters. In my cart, the LilyEve up-cycled bucket hat. I’m in love. Everyone needs a hat to match their manicure, don’t they?

And red. The hint of a stripe in a Vivienne Westwood plaid blazer (look for it in an upcoming edit). The ribbon detail on a Gucci boot. The check on a Faithfull dress. The color of the Simone corset… It’s calling my name. And this time? I’m heeding the call.

Because, somehow, that great exhale has cleared the cobwebs and made room for levity, for color, for fun, for positive energy in my closet.

For the first time in a while, I’m looking forward to getting dressed.

And those weeds?I’m clearing them, and I’m going to dance on their ashes—in my stilettos, of course.
